(In)famous internationally for encasing a tiger shark in a tank of formaldehyde, Damien Hirst is one of the most successful and prolific living artists.

Since the late 1980s, Damien Hirst has created installations, sculptures, paintings, prints, and drawings that examine the complex relationships between art and beauty, religion and science, and life and death.

This iconic print is part of one of his most notorious works. In 2007, he created an ambitious and startling artwork: a platinum cast of a human skull, set with 8,601 diamonds and a 52,4-karat pink diamond on the forehead.

This extravagant and bejewelled artwork allegedly broke all records becoming the most expensive contemporary artwork in the world. In addition to re-establishing the skull as an important motif in the history of art, Hirst also raised provocative questions about luxury, collecting and the role of art in our society.
